Fabian Henry - Chief Executive Officer
Fabian Henry, a proud Nova Scotian and former Canadian Armed Forces soldier, is dedicated to improving the lives of veterans and their families. During his 12 years of military service, Fabian rose to the rank of Sergeant, serving on six deployments across Afghanistan, Haiti, Pakistan, and beyond, while specializing as a combat engineer, diver, and parachutist.
After facing his own challenges with PTSD and physical health issues post-service, Fabian turned his adversity into action. He founded Veterans For Healing to create an integrated platform for personalized veteran care, combining treatment, advocacy, and support. Through his leadership and vision, Fabian is redefining veteran care, empowering others to find healing and renewed purpose after service.
Patrick MacDonald - Client Care Specialist
Known for his calm, patient approach, Patrick is our newest addition to the frontline operations at Veterans For Healing. As a dedicated Customer Care Specialist, he is committed to delivering exceptional service to clients by offering thoughtful, compassionate, and knowledgeable guidance with all things VFH.
Patrick takes pride in addressing concerns and providing clear, thorough solutions, and he consistently receives positive feedback from clients who appreciate his attentive and empathetic service.
Outside of work, Patrick enjoys spending quality time with his girlfriend, Janelle, and their dog, Gracie. A true hockey enthusiast, he can often be found watching hockey and keeping up with all the latest developments in the NHL.
Chelsea Shaheen - office Administrator
Chelsea is the highly esteemed Office Administrator at our Site B location. Her exceptional qualifications and extensive experience make her an invaluable asset to our team.
Graduating with honors from the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) in Office Administration, Chelsea has consistently demonstrated a passion for her field, coupled with a profound commitment to mental health advocacy.
With over two decades of experience in customer and client care, she possesses an innate ability to connect with clients from the very first interaction.
One of the most commendable aspects of Chelsea's career is her experience working with veterans. This role required not only administrative expertise but also a deep sense of empathy and understanding.
Chelsea excelled in this capacity, providing vital support and care to veterans, ensuring their needs were met with the utmost professionalism and compassion. Her work with veterans has underscored her dedication to serving those who have served our country, and it remains one of the highlights of her career.
Jon McKinnon - Operations Officer
Jon, a graduate of the Atlantic Police Academy in Summerside, PEI, served as a Deputy Sheriff in Sydney for 10 years before transitioning to a career in web design and multimedia. In August 2022, he joined Veterans For Healing, where he has made supporting veterans and their families his top priority.
Known for his calm demeanor and strong character, Jon brings a thoughtful, open-minded approach to his role. A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt with 12 years of experience, Jon is passionate about making the benefits of martial arts accessible to the veteran community, aligning with his commitment to fostering healing and resilience.
Dr. yvonne libbus, psychiatrist
Dr. Yvonne Libbus is a practicing psychiatrist in Sydney. Dr. Libbus provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management plans for those suffering with a variety of mental health presentations ranging from mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, PTSD and substance use disorders. She previously worked as a general adult psychiatrist at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for 16 years and now works in private practice in Sydney. She has worked with first responders, health care providers and veterans in a collaborative approach to provide timely access to psychiatric care.
Dr. Libbus received her medical degree from Dalhousie Medical School in Halifax and went on to receive certification as a family physician, working in Halifax and Dartmouth, and later returned to Dalhousie for further training and certification as a Psychiatrist. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, has undertaken leadership roles such as Chief of Psychiatry and Clinical Director of the Mental Health Program of the Cape Breton District Health Authority, and is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University.
She has been an Active Hope Facilitator since 2020 and is happy to be working with the team at Veterans for Healing providing individual and group therapy. When asked what she enjoys about her practice this past year she stated, “I enjoy serving those who have served others.”
Juliane Nowe - Client Care Specialist
Juliane Nowe is an integral member of our client care team, often serving as the friendly face or voice that welcomes you when you connect with us.
Beyond her administrative expertise, Juliane brings her passion for wellness to Veterans For Healing by leading yoga and sound healing sessions for our men’s and women’s groups, as well as offering classes throughout the Sydney area and online. Her dedication ensures that every interaction is both supportive and restorative.
Dr. reggie sebastian
Dr. Sebastian, originally from Sri Lanka, has been a dedicated medical professional in Cape Breton since 1996. With a specialization in family medicine, he completed his residency at Dalhousie University. Over the past 22 years, Dr. Sebastian has gained extensive experience working in various healthcare settings, including private practice, Sydney’s walk-in clinic, CBU Physician services, and addiction medicine.
Currently, Dr. Sebastian serves as the full-time Medical Director of the Opioid Addiction Program in the Eastern Zone. Alongside this important role, he has embarked on a new venture with Veterans for Healing, where he extends his expertise to provide compassionate care and support to veterans.
With his wealth of experience and commitment to improving lives, Dr. Sebastian plays a vital role in helping Veterans navigate their healthcare journey and find healing. His dedication to the well-being of his patients, combined with his comprehensive medical knowledge, make him an invaluable asset to the Veterans for Healing team.
shaun maher, chiropractor
Dr. Shaun grew up in Cape Breton swimming and boating on the Bras d’Or Lake, and skiing at Ski Ben Eoin. Like many, he left to complete his Bachelor of Science at Dalhousie University. After University he moved to Fernie, BC where he worked as a chiropractic assistant before being accepted into the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Becoming a chiropractor gave Shaun the opportunity to return home to serve in the healthcare of his community. He aims to help people live active healthy lives through education and chiropractic care. Chiropractic’s main focus is the relationship between the skeleton (particularly the spine) and the nervous system but chiropractors care for the entire body. Dr Shaun uses spinal adjustments, or manipulation as it is also referred to, as well as other manual techniques to help your body heal itself.
He tries to role model the active, healthy lifestyle he promotes. You may see Dr. Shaun with his kids camping and at the beach, golfing, skiing, or at the jujitsu gym.
